HOME BASED SERVICES

Philosophy

The Head Start Home Base program is built on the philosophy that families can and should be empowered to set their own goals; that the social supports of the extended family, friends, and community helps families cope with everyday living and improve their lives; and that families operate as interdependent systems.

The Home Base program provides services to families in a way that empowers them, that builds upon their strengths, promotes the growth of children’s social competency, and promotes family interdependence and community involvement.

 Focus

The focus of the Home Base program is the parents, and the emphasis of every home visit is to provide information to parents on what and how to teach the child, as well as addressing other services to meet the family’s needs.

Approach

At a home visit the Home Visitor:

  • works directly with the parents, forming partnerships with them;
  • focuses directly on the parents, encouraging and facilitating interaction between parent and child;
  • provides information to the parents – parents work directly with the child, with the Home Visitor encouraging and supporting the parents and demonstrating when necessary.
