SUBJECT: General Parental Involvement

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE: ATCAA Early Childhood Services involves parents in policy making and operations, as well as the design of parent-requested activities. ATCAA Early Childhood Services welcomes the involvement of all family members. Parental participation is voluntary and is not required as a condition of the child's enrollment and parents, legal guardians, and foster parents will have unlimited access to their children during normal operating hours.

OPERATIONAL PROCEDURE:

Parents and direct service staff plan together how parents will be involved in program design and operation. This include, but is not limited to:

  • Participation in their child's assessment
  • Participation in the development of lesson plans
  • Participation in the development of curriculum
  • Participation in parent committees
  • Participation on the Parent Policy Council (PPC)
  • Volunteering in the classroom
  • Observing their child in the classroom or at socialization

The parent, legal guardian, and/or foster parent are exempt from the requirement to submit finger prints. However, if the parent, legal guardian, or foster parent has a criminal record, the agency (Amador Tuolumne Community Action Agency Early Childhood Services) staff has the right to ask the parent about the nature of the crime. If a parent ,guardian, or foster parent indicates they have a criminal record ATCAA ECS does have the right to decline that person from volunteering in the program.

All volunteers must have TB clearance and sign a statement verifying they are in good health.

All volunteers must be supervised AT ALL TIMES by an employee who possesses a criminal clearance. Volunteers are not to be left alone with children at any time.

Staff arranges opportunities for parent participation that are compatible with work hours, education commitments, or training schedules and family obligations.

Training will be offered to staff on how to encourage and keep volunteers.

Teachers are responsible for training parent classroom volunteers.

ATCAA Early Childhood Services gives parents preference for employment vacancies for which they are qualified. (See ATCAA Hiring Procedures)

ATCAA Early Childhood Services agency consists of parents, classroom assistants, home based visitors, service area managers, coordinators, parent policy council, and Director
